The Petroleum Commission Ghana has commenced a two-day virtual technical engagement with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) as part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration and strengthen local content development within Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector. The engagement, which began today and will conclude tomorrow, forms part of activities under a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two institutions in October 2024.
The MOU was established to foster collaboration between the Commission and NCDMB through strategic guidance, technical support, knowledge sharing and capacity development in local content implementation.
Following earlier engagements on policies and guidelines in March 2026, as well as technical discussions on Local Content Fund implementation, the current engagement is focused on Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development and digital systems for local content monitoring and evaluation.
Speaking on the significance of the engagement, Director, Economics and Local Content at the Commission, Mr. Kwaku Boateng, noted that the collaboration reflects the Commission’s commitment to strengthening indigenous participation within Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry through strategic partnerships and knowledge exchange.
The first day of the engagement centered on SME development, with discussions focusing on NCDMB’s “Project 100” initiative, which supports the growth and sustainability of indigenous oil and gas service companies.
The second day focused on the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content (NOGIC) Joint Qualification System platform, a digital platform used for registering companies, supporting supplier development and assessing company performance within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The ongoing engagements are part of broader collaborative areas identified under the MOU, including development of policies and guidelines, data collation and reporting, Local Content Fund implementation, training and certification of nationals, as well as monitoring and evaluation systems.
The initiative is expected to support the Commission’s efforts to enhance local content implementation and build the capacity of indigenous Ghanaian companies to competitively participate in the upstream petroleum value chain.
