A six-member working committee made up of some management staff and two professors from the Takoradi Technical University to produce a strategic plan for the proposed World Class Centre for Pipefitting and Welding has been inaugurated this morning.
Under the aegis of the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Programme (AOGC), Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Egbert Faibille Jnr., has tasked the committee to as a matter of urgency, produce a comprehensive document that touches on critical areas including the need for such a world class centre, Justification for it being sited on the campus of Takoradi Technical University and the need to replicate similar facilities in future across other regions in Ghana.
The committee will also as part of its terms of reference come out with an ownership structure of the facility, an operational and financing framework as well as any other matters of concern.
“We want you to come out with a plan which will basically justify the project. It will be a document that will capture extensively what we intend do, where we want to go… essentially the whole vision” Mr. Faibille Jnr., intimated
He also assured that there will be a collaborative effort in the development of modules on Pipefitting and Welding with inspiration from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and other best practices across the world.
Prof. Kweku Bondzie Micah, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, one of the representatives for the university on the committee expressed their commitment to the project and indicated their readiness to support the Commission in making it a reality. “We are grateful for the opportunity given to TTU” he remarked.
The Committee chaired by Director, Local Content, Mr. Kwaku Boateng has since started work in earnest and is expected to finish its work on Friday.
