A delegation from the College of Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) today, paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission to strengthen the existing collaboration between the two institutions, and explore support for training more Ghanaians in the oil and gas industry.
Led by the Provost of the College of Engineering, Professor Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko, the delegation comprised senior faculty members who engaged in productive discussions with the Acting CEO on expanding opportunities for Engineering students to gain practical experience in the oil and gas sector.
The Acting CEO reaffirmed the Petroleum Commission’s commitment to capacity building and skills development within the industry, emphasising the importance of academia-industry partnerships in bridging the skills gap and ensuring more Ghanaians are equipped with the requisite competencies for roles in the sector.
“The Petroleum Commission is keen on fostering collaborations that will enhance local participation in Ghana’s oil and gas industry. We recognise the immense talent within our universities, and we are ready to support initiatives that provide students with the practical knowledge and skills needed for the industry,” she stated. In a presentation to the Commission, the KNUST delegation outlined various ways in which the Commission could provide assistance, including facilitating guest lectures, engaging students in industry seminars, and supporting research projects aligned with the sector’s needs.
They also discussed potential scholarship opportunities, technical training programmes, and the completion of an outstanding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.
