Ghana Air Force and Petroleum Commission Strengthen Strategic Partnership

The Ghana Air Force, under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen Frempong, has paid a courtesy visit to the Petroleum Commission as part of efforts to deepen collaboration and strengthen ties with stakeholders in the upstream
petroleum sector.
During the meeting, the Ag. CEO of the Commission, Ms. Emeafa Hardcastle, emphasised the importance of fostering stronger institutional ties between the Commission and stakeholders in the security sector.
“We recognize that a secure operating environment is a prerequisite for the growth and sustainability of Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry,” Ms. Hardcastle said.
“The Air Force remains a vital partner in safeguarding offshore installations and personnel, and we are committed to working together to
enhance our collective capabilities.”
Following her visit to the Takoradi Air Force Base earlier this year, she apprised the team with some of the issues raised highlighting the need to upgrade the air traffic control tower to meet growing operational demands in the oil and gas
enclave.
“That visit underscored our mutual interests and the urgency of modernising infrastructure to match the pace of developments in the sector,” she added.
She further acknowledged the essential role the Air Force plays in supporting Ghana’s upstream petroleum activities and assured the CAS of the Commission’s continued support for initiatives aimed at enhancing national security and operational readiness.
In his remarks, Air Vice Marshal Agyen Frempong described the Commission as a key stakeholder of the Ghana Air Force, particularly in offshore operations. He called for a revival of earlier initiatives to enhance the capabilities of the Air Force, including the acquisition of specialised assets to support search and rescue operations in Ghana’s offshore oilfields.
“With the support of the Petroleum Commission, we believe it is possible to strengthen our operational capacity to provide timely and effective emergency response services in the upstream sector,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both parties to deepen collaboration and explore further opportunities for cooperation, to secure Ghana’s interests in the petroleum industry.
