The Petroleum Commission, through its Business Advisory and Enterprise Development Department, last Wednesday held a pre-tender workshop in collaboration with Tullow Ghana Limited to support local suppliers and improve their participation in upcoming procurement opportunities in the upstream petroleum sector.

The workshop focused on upcoming tender opportunities within Tullow Ghana’s operations, particularly in the areas of Engineering Fabrication and Installation Services; Supply of Lubricants, Greases and CALMBUOY Consumables; and Fabric Maintenance Services and Composite Wrap Solutions

Delivering the opening remarks, the Director of Economics and Local Content at the Commission, Mr. Kwaku Boateng, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of the engagement as part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local participation in Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry.

Mr. Boateng noted that the workshop also serves as a follow-up to the recent launch of the Ghana Upstream Petroleum Business Outlook (GUPBO) Report, which provides Indigenous Ghanaian Companies with insights into planned projects and procurement opportunities within the industry.

The Ghana Upstream Petroleum Business Outlook Report was developed to equip Indigenous Ghanaian Companies with timely and forward-looking insights into planned projects and procurement opportunities from International Oil Companies and service providers,” he said.

He further emphasised the Commission’s commitment to supporting the growth of indigenous companies and enhancing their participation across the upstream petroleum value chain.

The Head of Business Advisory and Enterprise Development at the Commission, Agatha Enos Armah, led participants through an introductory session and outlined the key objectives of the workshop.

The workshop was moderated by the Local Content Manager at Tullow Ghana Limited, Dr. Jennifer Bruce Konuah, with several participants joining virtually.

Speaking during the engagement, the Chief Procurement Officer at Tullow Ghana Limited, Atul Sahay, expressed appreciation to the Petroleum Commission for the opportunity to engage vendors from the Tullow Supply Chain Academy.

We appreciate the Commission for providing the platform to engage vendors from the Tullow Supply Chain Academy. Tullow Ghana values this approach of engaging stakeholders and sharing industry knowledge, as it is an important component of how we operate,” he stated.

Officials from Tullow Ghana Limited, including the Supply Chain Manager, Otuko John-Teye, delivered a series of presentations on key aspects of the tendering process, covering areas such as local content requirements, commercial and tendering procedures, technical specifications, fabric maintenance requirements, environmental health and safety standards, and due diligence requirements, while guiding participants through the technical and operational expectations for vendors seeking to participate in upcoming tenders.

The workshop is part of efforts by the Commission to bring international oil companies and local Ghanaian suppliers together, promote transparency in procurement, and help local businesses to be better prepared to participate in opportunities within the upstream petroleum sector.
