Africa’s upstream energy sector is gearing up for this year’s Africa Oil Week (AOW) conference with renewed optimism after stakeholders used a pre-conference webinar to highlight the growing importance of collaboration, investment and local participation ahead of the September gathering in Accra.

The conference, scheduled for September 1–3, 2026 marks the second consecutive time Ghana’s capital will host the prestigious continental event, which brings together policymakers, investors and energy industry leaders from across Africa and beyond

Speaking during a pre-conference webinar on Tuesday, Ag. Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Nasir Alfa Mohammed, Esq. called for stronger partnerships among governments, investors and industry players to unlock Africa’s energy potential.

The conference, scheduled for September 1–3, 2026 marks the second consecutive time Ghana’s capital will host the prestigious continental event, which brings together policymakers, investors and energy industry leaders from across Africa and beyond

Speaking during a pre-conference webinar on Tuesday, Ag. Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Nasir Alfa Mohammed, Esq. called for stronger partnerships among governments, investors and industry players to unlock Africa’s energy potential.

“It also offers an opportunity to showcase the progress we have made in local content development and the broader growth potential within Ghana’s energy sector.”

Chief Executive Officer and Team Lead for Sankofa Events, organisers of AOW, Paul Sinclair, provided an overview of the conference, describing this year’s edition as one focused on investment opportunities, energy transition and regional cooperation.

“This year’s Africa Oil Week will bring together some of the most influential voices shaping Africa’s energy future,” Sinclair noted. “Our goal is to create a platform that connects capital with opportunity while promoting meaningful dialogue around energy security, sustainability and economic growth across the continent.”

Also speaking at the webinar, Agatha Enos Armah, Head of Business Advisory and Enterprise Development at the Petroleum Commission, expressed optimism about the success of the conference.

“We are confident that September’s event will be impactful and successful,” she said. “Beyond the discussions, Africa Oil Week will create opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and stakeholders to build partnerships that support long-term growth in the sector.”

In a closing remark, Head, Capacity Development and Localisation at the Commission, Mr. Karim Adam expressed satisfaction with deliberations and urged stakeholders to continue to engage as the event gets close.

Africa Oil Week is expected to attract hundreds of delegates, including government officials, global energy firms, financiers and policy experts, reinforcing Ghana’s growing influence in Africa’s evolving energy landscape.
