The Petroleum Commission is taking steps to strengthen its digital transformation agenda following its participation in Halliburton LIFE2026 (Landmark Innovation Forum & Expo) held in Orlando, Florida from the 27th to 30th April.

The event brought together global energy leaders, regulators, and technology providers to discuss how digitalisation, data management, and artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming the upstream petroleum industry.

The Commission was represented by the Ag. Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Nasir Alfa Mohammed Esq. and the Director of Economics & Local Content, Mr. Kwaku Boateng.

Discussions at the conference focused on the growing role of real time data, automation, integrated digital systems, and AI-driven technologies in improving operational efficiency and regulatory oversight across the petroleum sector.

On the sidelines of the event, the Commission held strategic engagements with Halliburton and Microsoft to explore opportunities for collaboration in areas such as real-time monitoring systems, reservoir analytics, cloud-based infrastructure, cybersecurity, and AI-enabled regulatory platforms.

According to the Ag. Deputy Chief Executive Officer, the insights gained from LIFE2026 reinforce the urgent need for the Commission to accelerate its digital transformation efforts to align with global industry trends and improve regulatory effectiveness.

The Commission is therefore considering next steps, including the development of a digital transformation roadmap, strengthening data governance systems, pursuing strategic technology partnerships, and implementing targeted staff training programmes in digital and data analytics competencies.

The Commission’s participation in LIFE2026 provided valuable insights into the future of upstream petroleum regulation and highlighted the importance of digitalisation, innovation, and data driven systems in positioning Ghana’s petroleum sector for long term growth and competitiveness.
