The acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Petroleum Commission, Ms. Emeafa Hardcastle, embarked on a working visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, at the Naval Headquarters last week.
The visit served as both a formal introduction of herself as the newly appointed Acting CEO of the Petroleum Commission, and an opportunity to strengthen the existing partnership between the Ghana Navy and the Petroleum Commission. Ms. Hardcastle discussed potential areas for further collaboration, particularly the enhancement of security within the maritime sector and the protection of Ghana’s oil and gas industry.
In a gesture of goodwill, Vice Admiral Yakubu as a prelude to the hearty conversation, congratulated Ms. Hardcastle on her recent appointment after which he highlighted the important role the Ghana Navy plays in securing the nation’s territorial waters.
He emphasised the need for continuous capacity building and the reinforcement of existing capacities for naval personnel, particularly through specialised training to support the growing oil and gas sector.
In response, Ms. Hardcastle expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and expressed optimism for increased collaboration between the two institutions. She reiterated the Petroleum Commission’s commitment to supporting the Navy in securing Ghana’s maritime domain and ensuring a safe operational environment for the oil and gas industry.
As part of the visit, Ms. Hardcastle and her team toured several key facilities, including the Maritime Operating Centre, the Biekro Museum, and the Vessel Traffic Management and Information System Centre at the Naval Headquarters
Vice Admiral Yakubu presented to Ms. Hardcastle a commemorative plaque and a customised Ghana Navy Kente stole, symbolising the enduring cooperation between the Navy and the Petroleum Commission.
Accompanying Ms. Hardcastle on the visit were Mr. Kwaku Boateng, Director, Economics and Local Content and Mr. Mohammed A. Kapeon, Manager, Petroleum Security at the Commission.
