A graduation ceremony has been held for a batch of 150 young Ghanaians who successfully completed technical training as process, instrumentation, mechanical and electrical technicians at the Jubilee Training and Technical Training Centre (JTTC) of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU).
The training is one of several efforts being employed by the Petroleum Commission to increase Ghanaian participation in the upstream petroleum industry. As managers of the Government’s Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Building (AOGC) Programme, under the leadership of the Ministry of Energy, the Commission in partnership with key institutions is leading efforts to ensure that young Ghanaians are well equipped with internationally recognised skills and certificates required to play key roles in the industry.
Guest of Honour at the event, Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Andrew Agyapa Mercer, on behalf of the Minister for Energy, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, commended the efforts of the Commission and TTU.
“We applaud the Commission for their continuous efforts to ensure the programme grows from strength to strength. To the TTU, we are grateful for being a bridge between industry and academia. We remain committed to many more of these strategic partnerships in the interest of our fledgling oil and gas industry,” he said.
He further called on the graduating students to continue to develop the art of learning, discipline and hard work to ensure that the investment the Government and the Commission has made in building their capacity will not be in vain.
The event was presided over by Ing. Dr. Robert Agyei on behalf of the TTU Council Chair, Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin. The Western Region Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Vice Chancellor of TTU, Prof. John Frank Eshun and Registrar at TTU, Dr. Moses Mclean Abnory graced the occasion with their presence.
