The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr., has re-echoed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to support Ghanaian companies to build capacity and thrive in the upstream petroleum industry. This according to Mr. Faibille Jnr., is in line with the vision of the government to consolidate local content and local participation in the industry.
He made this assertion during the commissioning of the MV Flat Confidence Vessel at the Takoradi Commercial Port last Thursday. It is the first Ghanaian-owned, Ghanaian flagged marine vessel to support offshore activities in Ghana’s oil and gas industry.
“The Commissioning of this vessel this morning is indeed a historic feat. If one is familiar with the marine industry, a vessel has 64 parts which could be owned by different parties. It is not always easy for one entity to own all the 64 parts. What is significant in this MV Flat Confidence Vessel is that all the 64 parts are owned by Ghanaians,” he said to a cheerful applause from the audience.
He added that the government of President Akufo-Addo has been a strong advocate for the participation of local companies in Ghana’s upstream oil and gas industry, as a way of creating economic opportunities in the oil and gas value chain. This he says has been the guiding precept of the Commission and will continue in that direction anchored on the dictates of L.I 2204.
He further congratulated the vessel owner, Flat C Marine Offshore Limited, their financial partners, Prudential Bank and ABSA and urged them to collaborate in more strategic areas to deepen the country’s local content drive
The initiative by the owners to acquire this vessel was birthed from Tullow Ghana’s local content initiative, “The Marine Sector Adoption Initiative”. The owner of the vessel and Tullow have thus indicated their resolve to continue this strategic partnership.
